The Bioinformatician provides input into the analysis and interpretation of high throughput data from experiments, develops bioinformatic techniques and approaches for data approaches and builds and maintains software infrastructure. The Bioinformatician is also responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of staff to ensure the research objectives of the group are met.
The ideal candidate will possess a Masters in Bioinformatics, biostatistics or Computer Science plus a minimum of two years experience in a research laboratory including experience with object modelling, data modelling and programming, standard bioinformatics tools and techniques, genome assembly, gene expression analysis, biological pipeline development, software development, sequence data analysis, proteomic data analysis, fingerprint mapping data analysis or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
This is a role that demands a high degree of critical thinking and the ability to develop novel approaches and techniques for solving problems. You have demonstrated knowledge of software languages, operating systems and programming languages including Unix/Linux, C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, R, MatLab, SQL, and relational database. This role also requires the ability in developing algorithms, machine learning and statistical model for bioinformatics. Demonstrated knowledge with human genome databases is desired.
You will bring effective oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. You will be expected to multi-task and prioritize work to meet deadlines. You are a high achiever who demonstrates initiative has the ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
