What you’ll do
- Receive referrals and provides assertive outreach services as approved by the Manager, Regional Clinic for clients of the clinic who require assertive outreach support as they make the transition from living at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital to the community, including providing support to the client during the Visit Leave process.
- Receive referrals and provide assertive outreach services as approved by the Manager, Regional Clinic for clients on bail, probation or provincial parole who require assertive outreach support.
- Conduct preliminary interviews with the client to identify case coordination and support needs; assess clinical requirements, status, and condition. Ensure the Manager, Regional Clinic and clients’ treatment team members are informed of emerging problems, unusual circumstances, plans of action, and legal issues concerning assigned clients.
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with community resources; liaises with nurses, social workers, physicians, probation officers and family members of assigned clients.
- Support clients’ access to services by accompanying clients to community agencies and resources; acts as an advocate to enhance the client’s access to community resources.
What you bring
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year of recent experience working in a forensic or acute psychiatric hospital setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills and Knowledge
- Current and updated knowledge of changes and developments in the practice of psychiatric nursing and of applicable Federal and Provincial legislation (i.e. the Criminal Code of Canada, Forensic Psychiatry Act, the Mental Health Act, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Young Offenders Act, Public Trustee Act).
- Broad knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of behavioural, social emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues in adults.
- Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)

Job Type: Regular Part-Time (0.66 FTE)
Wage: $38.07 – 49.42 per hour.
