In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of BC Emergency Health Services, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at BC Emergency Health Services, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all patient and employee safety aspects of this position.


Reporting to the Telecommunications Team Lead, the Installation Technician is primarily responsible for the installation/removal of telecommunication equipment in BCEHS vehicles, as well as 1st and 2nd level incident management and technical support of telecommunications and related technical equipment. The Technician must develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the installation of BCEHS’ radio and telecommunication infrastructure in vehicles including VHF/UHF/Trunked radio systems and data transmission equipment as well as their integration with other applications and all interfaces to external systems.


This position may be required to travel for extended periods in performance of duties including flying in helicopters to various mountain-top repeater sites as required. The Installation Technicians scheduled for on on-call work and after hour support. This position requires employees to successfully obtain and maintain security clearance in order to access external stakeholder worksites and data.


What you’ll do

  • Assembles, programs, prepares and configures telecommunications equipment for installation in vehicles. Installs and commissions telecommunications equipment in vehicles.
  • Assists other Telecomm Technicians in the installation/repair and maintenance of equipment in stations, dispatch, and at radio repeater sites.
  • Provides 1st and 2nd level incident management and technical support of telecommunications and related technical equipment. Refers problems as required.
  • Coordinates any repairs and maintenance to existing telecommunications equipment in vehicles, stations, and dispatch.
  • Reviews the work of contractors on the installation, repair and/or maintenance of telecommunications equipment and certifies contractor work for release for payment.
  • Provides technical support for radio network products (e.g. Cisco routers, dispatch radio consoles, radio over IP equipment, portable and mobile radios, pagers, etc.) and for telephony systems within BCEHS Dispatch centres.
  • Monitors incident tracking system with respect to radio/telephony issues; identifies and categorizes alerts into bugs or enhancements; prioritizes and investigates; works with other Technicians to identify specific internal or external processes and options for resolution; analyses and documents problems details; compiles incident assessments on functional problems or recurring issues for maintenance scheduling; provides 1st and 2nd level integration support to help desk; supports help desk staff with problems and issues.
  • Analyses inquiries from radio contractors and users regarding radio installation/trouble-shooting, radio network performance,; assists in analyses of business requirements for telephone/radio problems, issues, changes or enhancements
  • Assists in providing recommendations to resolve recurring operational issues; identifies and recommends revisions to procedures or issues/ options for consideration in the negotiation of service level agreements.
  • Performs the role of single point of contact for radio installation and equipment maintenance; performs repairs to telecommunications equipment;; updates on an ongoing basis to reflect current status; compiles all component(s) for input into the integrated BCEHS telecommunications maintenance plans.
  • Represents Telecomm Operations on project teams; ensures operational requirements are clearly understood; works with development team/ contractors to resolve issues and provide input to test plans; provides telecommunications system and process expertise; analyses and provides input on internal knowledge transition plans and risks.
  • Installs/programs a variety of telecommunications equipment and related software including integration into a variety of BCEHS proprietary programs/equipment.
  • Physically maneuvers and lifts various equipment up to 40-50 kilograms
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

What you bring

 

Qualifications

  • Grade 12, graduation from a recognized two year computer systems technology diploma program plus two years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license is required.

  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
