General Practitioner in Oncology - BC Cancer Kelowna

General Practitioner in Oncology

Regular, Full-Time (1.0 FTE)

Kelowna, BC

BC Cancer is one of the world's renowned cancer organizations. The BC Cancer Kelowna Centre, as one of six Regional Centres, offers a full range of services in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Clinical Trials, Palliative care and support services such as Nutrition, Patient and Family Counseling, and Oncology Psychiatry. The local medical community offers tertiary level care across specialties, affiliation with the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus and the UBC Faculty of Medicine training program. We are seeking an additional GP in Oncology team member, to join our established and collegial group.

Working with a team of specialized medical oncologists and allied health professionals at this Centre, you will participate exclusively in the care of Oncology patients. As a GPO, you would participate in the treatment and follow up of patients after curative and palliative treatment planning, as well as potentially in clinical trials and teaching. Areas of tumour site participation will be defined by Centre need, with an effort to accommodate candidate interests as well. This Centre provides consultations to individuals across many areas of the Southern Interior, using virtual platforms, and you may be involved in coordinating care with GPOs working in other Centres outside of Kelowna. There is a large and growing GPO network regionally and provincially, providing excellent opportunities for networking and education.

The Okanagan is a region of spectacular beauty and agricultural abundance, with a variety of recreational and cultural options. Surrounded by majestic mountains, refreshing waters and lush orchards, every season holds promise, with activities such as hiking, biking and boating in summer, to skiing, boarding and biathlon in winter. Fortunate to be at the heart of BC’s Okanagan wine region, the area boasts amazing festivals featuring internationally recognized wines. In addition to museums, art galleries, a symphony, opera and choral groups, ballet, and wonderful restaurants, the 2,000 hours of sunshine each year will help you enjoy making the Southern Interior your home.

Applicants must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia and have Canadian certification (FRCP, FRCS or CCFP) at the time of appointment. You must also be suitable for appointment to the University of British Columbia. If you have no prior experience as a GPO, BC Cancer will support your training, involving both didactic virtual teaching, and in-clinic patient-related instruction.
