The On-site Organ Donation Coordinator (ODC) functions as an integral part of the Organ Donation and Hospital Development (ODHD) team. 


*This position is based in Kelowna with ability to travel to interior sites.*



What you’ll do

  • Respond promptly to the hospital’s request for on-site organ donation assistance, act as a resource for the hospital care team. Work opposite of the IHC to ensure that there is adequate coverage for the sites.
  • Meet with families at a time of crisis to provide information on donation and support them through the donation process. Strive to provide a positive and meaningful donation experience.
  • Accurately document consent and conduct medical/social history interviews in accordance to BCT and Health Canada standards. Support health care team with organ donor management.
  • Provide expert on-site organ donation consultation, guidance, and advice to hospital staff including physician, nurses, and social workers. Support health care team with organ donor management queries.
  • Collect medical/legal and other information for the ODS, ensuring that the organ donation process proceeds in an effective, safe, accountable and clinically standardized manner. Maintain an accurate and detailed donor record in compliance with Health Canada Regulations surrounding donation of organs for transplantation. 


What you bring

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a Health Sciences, with a minimum of three (3) years of recent related experience in the Health Authority critical care environment and/or organ donation experience.

  • Demonstrate skills in conflict resolution within the healthcare environment.
  • Establish effective relationships with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Remain calm composed and focused under extremely emotional and tense situations.
  • Be empathic to the needs of families undergoing emotional trauma, sensitive to spiritual and cultural contexts of care, and interact effectively with individuals who are experiencing personal emotional trauma.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills that include verbal and written communications. Computer experience is essential as a significant amount of work is completed using an electronic donor record.

Job Type: Regular, Part-Time (0.50 FTE)

Location: 2268 Pandosy Street Kelowna, BC, V1Y 1T2 (Kelowna based with ability to travel to interior sites)
