What you’ll do

 

• Supports the development and maintenance of skills that are relevant for the patients’ reintegration in the community setting by working 1:1 with clients on the unit or in the community, following the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation and supporting small community outings (SSCO).
• Prepares for groups by ensuring program materials are ready, reviewing and preparing group content, and cleaning up the group space as required. Responsible to ensure program items and materials are safe, clean, ready and appropriate for patient use.
• Work alongside the client to demonstrate and teach skills: ie laundry, making beds, general cleaning, personal hygiene support, accompanying patients in the community, and orienting patients to resources in the community, and other skill areas identified by the Rehabilitation and Vocational team.
• Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients/families while fostering a culture of patient and staff safety. The health care worker maintains confidentiality and respect for the patient’s rights and privacy through continual engagement and communication.
• Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team by participating in care planning meetings to identify patient strengths, limitations and areas for development. Contributes to the development of specific program curricula to achieve the target outcome.

 

What you bring

 

Qualifications

 

• Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or Care Attendant Program, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

 

Skills and Knowledge

 

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment
• Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
• Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
• As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have:  Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)

Job Type: Regular Full-Time (1.00 FTE)

Wage: $29.32 per hour.

Location: 70 Colony Farm Road, Coquitlam, B.C. V3C 5X9
