About Lower Mainland Laboratories

Lower Mainland Laboratories (LM Labs) is a service of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). We are responsible for providing public laboratory services at 31 laboratory sites and 33 patient services centres throughout the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

Hospital-based laboratories within Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, Providence Health Care and PHSA provide both inpatient and outpatient laboratory services. Our specialty laboratories provide a variety of reference and specialized testing.

Seventy to eighty percent of clinical decisions are based on laboratory test results. Our highly trained staff are committed to providing the highest quality laboratory services to all our clients. Are you skilled at data entry and clerical functions? Are you curious about the inner workings of a public health laboratory? Help BC’s COVID-19 response by joining LM Labs as a Clerk, where you will assist laboratory professionals with processing test requisitions and matching them with patient samples.

This role will be instrumental in supporting COVID-19 testing work across the province.

Reporting to the Section Supervisor/Lead, the Laboratory Administrative Clerk performs data entry functions against requisitions; provides clerical duties such as answering telephone calls and filing for the department. Receives and processes test requisitions, matching them with patient samples when required. Enters, searches and retrieves information from computerized information systems as required.

What you’ll do

  • Performs data entry functions and general word processing such as inputting client information into relevant computerized systems, maintaining relevant registers, and typing from rough draft or general instruction, including correspondence, reports, and documents. 
  • Receives and processes test requisitions, matching them with patient samples when required. Enters, searches and retrieves information from computerized information systems as required. Enters test orders into computerized information systems in accordance with established procedures.
  • Performs clerical duties such as answering telephone calls and filing. 
  • Performs general record management duties such as assembling files, assigning file numbers, preparing file folders, and filing and distributing documents and files. 
  • Receives, records, sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, internal correspondence, and courier documents. 
  • Maintains inventory of department supplies as needed. 
  • Prioritizes and organizes work. Maintains a clean and tidy work area. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

  • Grade 12, medical terminology and two years recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 45 wpm.
