BC Cancer provides comprehensive cancer control for the people of British Columbia.


The CPQA Chair (“Chair”) will function to improve practices and increase knowledge within surgical oncology throughout the province via promoting and championing surgical quality improvement endeavours and standards. The Chair will work collaboratively with BCCS (BC Cancer Surgery Strategy) executive leadership, BC Cancer regional leadership, Health Authority Regional Surgical Leads, surgeons and hospital administration in advocating surgical quality assurance and betterment, with the intent of ensuring cancer patients within BC have access to the highest quality surgical cancer care. Furthermore, the Chair will function as a liaison between BCCS and other clinical practice groups, such as the STGs, alongside other relevant/ appropriate parties, including the Ministry of Health and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC).


The successful candidate will collaborate with the Clinical Practice group and other stakeholders by working to establish optimal organizational standards and Quality Improvement Strategies; be responsible for systems planning and development by establishing a framework for converting CPAC standards to measurable and reportable criteria; and perform other duties such as attending meeting with the BCCS committees and teams.


Qualification for the Chair – CPQA position includes certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, alongside currently actively providing surgical care for cancer patients at a hospital within BC. Surgeons with advanced training in quality improvement and/ or fellowship credentialed subspecialty training are preferred.
