The Department Head, Diagnostic Imaging - Vancouver, working in partnership with key operational leaders and in alignment with the PHSA mission, vision, and values, is responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning, and oversight for the Diagnostic Imaging Department with respect to the clinical services provided by the department, and the professional practice and conduct among members of the department.

BC Cancer – Vancouver Diagnostic Imaging is the only diagnostic imaging program that exists within a BC Cancer Centre. The department has a longstanding reputation for excellence in Cancer Imaging and contributions to diagnostic imaging research and education. BC Cancer - Vancouver is a full service cancer centre with strong programs in addition to diagnostic imaging including medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, oral oncology, supportive care and functional imaging services and an inpatient unit.

Working towards a world free from cancer, BC Cancer has a mandate that covers the entire spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia in partnership with regional health authorities to deliver a range of cancer services, which include prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It operates six regional cancer centres in Surrey, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Prince George, along with two research centres that conduct research into the causes and cures for cancer.

The successful candidate will establish terms of reference, policies and procedures governing the operation of the Diagnostic Imaging Department BC Cancer – Vancouver, in consultation with the Department’s members and Executive Medical Director, in alignment with relevant PHSA/BC Cancer policies, rules, and bylaws. You will also be responsible for monitoring the quality of medical services provided by members of the Department through processes defined in the Medical Staff Rules, e.g. regular performance reviews.

Applications are invited from those who have graduated from an approved medical school with a specialist training in Radiology and at least 5 years of clinical experience practicing as a Radiologist. You must be eligible for licensing by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and for appointment to the staff of BC Cancer.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

As per the current Public Health Order, full vaccination against COVID-19 is a condition of employment with PHSA as of October 26, 2021.
