Department Head, Pathology and Lab Medicine
The Department Head, Pathology and Lab Medicine at BC Cancer, working in partnership with key operational leaders and in alignment with the PHSA mission, vision, and values, is responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning, and oversight for the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine with respect to the clinical care provided by the department, and the professional practice and conduct among members of the department.
Working towards a world free from cancer, BC Cancer has a mandate that covers the entire spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia in partnership with regional health authorities to deliver a range of cancer services, which include prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It operates six regional cancer centres in Surrey, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Prince George, along with two research centres that conduct research into the causes and cures for cancer.
The successful candidate will establish terms of reference, policies and procedures governing the operation of the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine BC Cancer – Vancouver, in consultation with the Department’s members and (E)MD, in alignment with relevant PHSA/BC Cancer policies, rules, and bylaws. You will also be responsible for monitoring the quality of medical care provided and work performed by members of the Department through processes defined in the Medical Staff Rules, e.g. regular performance review.
Applications are invited from those who have graduated from an approved medical school with a specialist fellowship in Pathology and Lab Medicine and at least 5 years of clinical experience practicing as a Pathology and Lab Medicine physician. You must be eligible for licensing by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and for appointment to the staff of BC Cancer.
