Medical Director, Infection Prevention and Control

Medical Director, Infection Prevention and Control, PHSA

Regular Part Time (0.50 FTE)

Note: there may be options to combine this with other positions such as medical microbiology or pediatric infectious disease 

 

The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) is actively recruiting for a Medical Director to co-lead the Infection Prevention and Control team as a dyad partner with the IPAC Director. IPAC coverage is provided for BC Children's and Women's, BC Centre for Disease Control, BC Cancer, BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services, Correctional Health Services, BC Centre for Disease Control and BC Emergency Health Services. As the Medical Director, the successful candidate will serve as the medical lead for PHSA Infection Prevention and Control, working as a dyad leader. The Medical Director oversees the core functions of the PHSA impact; collaboration and engagement; education; surveillance; hand hygiene; outbreak management; emergencies, disasters and major incidents; program protocols and procedures; and research initiatives. The Medical Director coordinates the development and implementation of Infection prevention and Control policies and procedures, in collaboration with other clinical, public health, and administrative bodies. The candidate also participates in the on-call roster for PHSA's Infection Prevention and Control service. In conjunction with the Director, the Medical Director will create and lead a shared vision for the delivery of IPAC services across PHSA and establish strategic direction for the IPAC team.

 

Responsibilities include clinical administration (e.g., on call, consulting with IPAC team members on challenging situation such as patient care, outbreak investigations, etc.), teaching, program development and research. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to best practice and advancing knowledge in the fild of Infection Prevention and Control. Additionally, there is an expectation of excellence in and commitment to teaching across the spectrum of learners. Strong interprofessional skills in working in complex environments, personal interest in Infection Prevention and Control and a commitment to a clinical academic sub-specialty environment will ensure success in this role. The successful candidate will be expected to forge productive collaborations with other members of the institution, the university as well as provincial, national and international collaborations. In addition to stellar academic qualifications, a proven track record of demonstrated excellence in teaching and superb clinical credentials. 

 

The successful candidate must be eligible for licensing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia as well as Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Medical Microbiology and/or Infectious Diseases. Formal IPAC training and/or IPAC experience, as well as leadership experience are required.
