BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is seeking a Medical Lead, Pediatrics for the BCW Maternal Newborn Program. Reporting to the Senior Medical Director, Maternal Newborn Program, the Medical Lead is responsible for leading all clinical and policy work with respect to the care of the newborn at BC Women’s Hospital. This includes work across the inpatient programs of BC Women’s (Urgent Care Centre, LDR, Cedar Birthing Suites, postpartum and the FIR program). In addition, the role is closely partnered with the Medical Lead, Mother Baby Care in the Neonatal Program.
As the successful candidate, you will apply current research evidence and best practice standards to guide program development. You are an innovator, accountable for quality of care in accordance with established policies and philosophies. Your work locally will help to inform regional and provincial pediatric practice. You will apply your knowledge and experience to monitor operations and lead continuous quality improvement for your clinical service area while remaining a practicing physician. You will participate in the collaborative development of clinical practice standards relating to the newborn population.
You have an affinity for leadership in an academic health centre. You have an ability to work in an inter-professional unit, collaborating with partners in nursing, social work, hospital leadership and all practitioners of obstetric and newborn care. Opportunities for further leadership training are available to the successful candidate.
You are committed to your clinical practice and strive to provide the highest level of care. You will lead a strong team of physicians and midwives providing care to our pediatric population. You are capable of leading staff, problem solving, achieving results and developing coalitions. You lead by example, providing support and developing strong working relationships through inter-professional collaboration.
You are eligible for medical licensure in the Province of British Columbia. You will have FRCPC Accreditation for Pediatrics. As the successful candidate, you will be recommended for clinical faculty appointment to the University of British Columbia (UBC). Academic rank will be dependent on qualifications and will be recommended by the Department of Pediatrics, UBC Faculty of Medicine.
