About Lower Mainland Laboratories
Lower Mainland Laboratories (LM Labs) is a service of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). We are responsible for providing public laboratory services at 31 laboratory sites and 33 patient services centres throughout the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.
Hospital-based laboratories within Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, Providence Health Care and PHSA provide both inpatient and outpatient laboratory services. Our specialty laboratories provide a variety of reference and specialized testing.

Medical Technologist III- Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) - LM Labs
Medical Technologist III- Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
Under the supervision of the Regional Manager and direction of the LIS Co-ordinator, the position maintains and supports designated software applications and technologies for the various LIS systems. Duties include assisting in the maintenance and support of the LIS, maintaining databases and lists, preparing standard reports for review, assisting in training sessions for Laboratory staff, assisting in preparation and distribution of new/revised procedures and policies, troubleshooting returned patient reports, and controlling user access to information technologies within the Laboratory.
What you’ll do
- Assist LIS Co-ordinator in the support of the LIS by participating in maintenance of various computerized databases and laboratory lists by performing duties such as investigating and correcting reported errors; liaise with laboratory team and other users within the organization to receive feedback and resolve problems associated with system applications.
- Assess user requests for minor system application enhancements; detail specifications; develop test plans; on approval, revise and test database maintenance.
- Participate in co-ordination of training sessions for Laboratory staff, both technical and clerical, in collaboration with LIS Co-ordinator, Teaching Technologists, Technical Supervisors and Operations Manager by assessing training priorities, identifying and scheduling training modules, and assisting in training sessions and preparation of materials.
- Participate in the implementation of newly approved systems and processes for the LIS by assisting with the preparation and distribution of new/revised procedures and policies
- Troubleshoot returned computerized patient reports by investigating and correcting problems or referring issues to LIS Co-ordinator. Provide input and suggestions regarding processes and monitoring mechanisms to ensure accurate computerized reporting and information.
- In conjunction with the LIS Co-ordinator, control access to the various LIS systems through duties such as creating and selecting user accounts and access privileges, and monitoring user access to the systems to ensure security and confidentiality of patient information.
- Participate in special projects, as requested, such as information system initiatives and patient record issues, attending meetings, receiving and/or providing information, preparing reports and taking follow up action as required.
What you bring:
- Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
- Two (2) years' recent related experience, including one (1) years experience supporting computerized patient care systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Use computerized systems relating to the laboratory.

- Organize and prioritize workload.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Commit to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- Demonstrate knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
