Plumber and Gas Fitter

You are a Red Seal Certified plumber and gas fitter with a big toolbelt and an even bigger heart. You would love the opportunity for some incredibly meaningful work: this is your chance to support health care by not only keeping facilities operating smoothly, but by being a part of the bigger team who works together to support patients and their families with all their needs while receiving care. When you work with Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), you join a “work family” of consistent coworkers and location, with a set 7am-3pm schedule, and all the tools and materials you need are provided. What you’ll do

Provide facilities upkeep ranging from installs to repairs to ongoing maintenance. Work on a variety of systems and large equipment, and standardized units (e.g. sinks, toilets) throughout each facility. Tasks are scheduled for completion and regularly include:

  • Install, repair and maintain hospital equipment.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel by performing minor building repairs and servicing as required.
  • Maintain, repair and operate plumbing equipment (e.g. Sump pumps) and install and repair plumbing fixtures.
  • Maintain, install and repair drainage system and re-piping using Cast iron and PVC
  • Maintain, repair and install water line system using Soldering, flanged or Victaulic.
  • Maintain, install and test backflow preventer devices.
  • Install and repair natural gas piping.
  • Maintain and operate the medical gases' piping, outlets, bottles and manifolds. (Having some medical gases knowledge is an asset, we provide training).
  • Maintain and operate the swimming pool daily. (Having some pool knowledge is an asset, we provide training).
  • Maintain and operate Fire protection system. (Having some fire sprinkler system knowledge is an asset, we provide training)

What you bring

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Commercial Red Seal certified plumber and gas fitter with Journeyman certification in: BC TQ in plumbing; BC Gas Fitters Class B license; Certificate of Competency, Cross Connection Control Specialist
  • 2+ years’ recent, related experience as a Commercial Certified Plumber and Gas Fitter, Journeyman Plumber and completion of Grade 10 or equivalent; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills and Experience

  • Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings with good understanding
  • Organizes work with attention to priority tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills; communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Physically able to carry out the duties of the position
