Testimonials

  • "I help make your very worst day of your life, bringing your child to the emergency department a little bit lighter. A little bit better. Or at least to help to make you feel just a little bit more comfortable in a really scary situation."

    ~ Michelle, RN, emergency department
  • "People would be surprised at the patient connection that you do get [in the operating room]. There's a misconception that there's not a lot of involvement with the patient, because they are asleep for most of the procedure, but during the time that you are with them, it's quite a deep connection, and it's very, very rewarding."

~ Vanja, clinical nurse educator, operating room
  • "We have such a great team... in my nursing career I have never been exposed to a team like this where communication, support, resources, and interdisciplinary teamwork is at this level. And it's something that I don't know I would ever be able to leave."

~ Jason, RN, pediatric intensive care unit
  • "Frontline staff is all about making connections with the patients, primarily teenagers and children, also the families, really making deep connections with them over time."

~Patrick, RN, child and youth mental health

About Us:

BC Women’s Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the new Teck Acute Care Centre is the first of its kind in North America to redesign the model of care so mothers and their babies can receive treatment in the same room, from the same nurse. It features 70 private rooms designed for our tiny patients and their families. 10 of these special rooms are dedicated to allow mothers to receive care alongside their newborns.

BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women’s health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system. As an academic health centre, BCW’s mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.

BCW is a program of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), which plans, manages and evaluates selected specialty and province-wide health care services across BC.
