You are an Electrophysiology-trained technician who is skilled in performing EEGs through routine procedures as well in within critical care settings. You enjoy children of all ages – from the smallest of pre-term infants through to young adults, with a wide variety of physical, intellectual, and communication abilities. What you’ll do

  • Write comprehensive patient history with accumulated information from the patient and/or parent, and the medical chart documents. Determine the presenting problem and directs test accordingly. Explain the procedure to the patient and family members present and answers any questions.
  • Recognize artifact (physiological or environmental). Documents, eliminates or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact. Apply EOG, EKG, EMG and appropriate transducers to monitor physiologic activities.
  • Perform ambulatory monitoring. Apply electrodes and programs hard drive to collect with appropriate parameters as determined by the presenting history. Disconnect patient, transfers collected data to hospital network and reformats hard drive. Analyse and classifies EEG data.
  • Perform basic EP’s and EMG/NC in the laboratory or at the bedside.
  • Participate in student training program by teaching didactic lectures.
  • Administer sedation to patient as prescribed by the patient’s physician, under supervision, when necessary.
  • Participate in in-service educational programs by preparing and presenting lectures. Present video and EEG results at Rounds. Present platform and poster presentations at conferences and technical meetings.
  • Perform video tape archiving by operating dual VCR’s and titling equipment to copy seizure segments onto mastertape.
  • Order miscellaneous supplies from stores, pharmacy and outside suppliers.
  • Write scientific manuscripts for publication in medical journals; prepares presentations and contributes at conferences.
  • Proofread and signs the final report generated on all tests performed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

What you bring

 

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved Electrophysiology Course with certification or a hospital-based training program from an approved institution or two years recent experience including one year recent paediatric experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the Hospital.
  • Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Registration with the Canadian or American Board of Registration for Electroencephalograph Technologists (R.E.T. or R.EEG T.).
  • Plus one additional registration achieved in one of the following areas:
  • Registration with the Canadian or American Board of Registered EMG Technologists (RT(EMG) or R.ED T.).
  • Registration with the American Board of Registered Evoked Potential Technologists (R.EP T.).
  • Registration with the American Board of Registration in Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM).

Skills & Knowledge

  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Job Type: Regular, Part-time (.5 FTE)

Wage: $33.29 - $41.61 hourly

Location: 4500 Oak Street, Vancouver BC V6H 2N9
