Overview

As a successful candidate, you will be part of a team that processes and analyzes patient samples and produces results that healthcare practitioners rely on to make diagnoses. You will follow established protocols and utilize quality control guidelines to produce accurate laboratory test results. You will collaborate with highly trained colleagues in a technical, ever changing, analytical environment.

About Lower Mainland Laboratories

Lower Mainland Laboratories (LM Labs) is a service of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). We are responsible for providing public laboratory services at 31 laboratory sites and 33 patient services centres throughout the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

Hospital-based laboratories within Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, Providence Health Care and PHSA provide both inpatient and outpatient laboratory services. Our specialty laboratories provide a variety of reference and specialized testing.

Seventy to eighty percent of clinical decisions are based on laboratory test results. Our highly trained staff are committed to providing the highest quality laboratory services to all our clients. Whistler/Pemberton Area, LM Labs, $30.90 to $38.63 per hour

 

 

 

What you’ll do

 

1. Perform daily routine duties in both Lab and X-ray departments as required. 

 

       Lab

  • Work on hematology, coagulation and chemistry benches.
  • Perform daily quality control, as appropriate
  • Run patient samples and reports
  • Receive blood components and products
  • Assign and dispense uncross matched red cells, albumin, RHIG, IVIG, plasma and cross matched red cells
  • Transport blood components and products
  • Quarantine and discard of blood products
  • Pooling/reconstitution of purified plasma products (such as PCC, fibrinogen)

    X-ray

  • Perform general x-ray procedures in the department and on the floor
  • Prepare films for physicians and radiologists by retrieving relevant previous films and information and completing all documentation for each case
  • Maintain film library

2. Perform inpatient and outpatient phlebotomies.

3. Perform, document and monitor internal and external quality control.

 

 

What you bring

  • Graduation from a recognized Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology Program.
  • Eligible for registration with a provincial licensing body.
  • Completion of the NAIT TRAM 101 Course, minimum one (1) year recent, related experience or program/curriculum based instruction in transfusion medicine or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
