Full-Time Locum Position
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a mixed surgical/medical unit that includes an active cardiac surgical program. As a member of the dedicated team of critical care specialists, you will provide expert clinical care and supervision. Under the guidance of the Division Head and as a leader in the field, your prime responsibility will be direct patient clinical care of all critically ill children, with a special focus on perioperative care of children with cardiac disease. This extends to providing advice to physicians in the community, as well as to the families of critically ill children.
Within this responsibility, the successful candidate will work actively to encourage a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and respect within the entire critical care and cardiac science healthcare team. In addition, you will mentor and teach students and resident staff in the Intensive Care Unit. You will also be expected to promote collaborative and multicentre research in pediatric intensive care. The coordination of transport of the critically ill child is also a critical component of the position. In this role, you will actively work to promote patient safety including participating in the Divisional Patient Safety Quality & Improvement Programs and maintaining patient records according to accepted standards.
In addition to being an experienced pediatrician, anesthetist or cardiologist, successful applicants will have completed training in an accredited pediatric critical care specialty-training program, with further training within a pediatric cardiac critical care unit. The demonstrated extensive experience you possess in managing both cardiac and non cardiac patient populations and ECMO, as well as your competency in Pediatric Transport, will ensure your success in this rewarding role. Applicants also have PALS and ATLS certification. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia and certifiable with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
