Making connections in ToD Led to a dream role: Sanaa's Story

Sanaa Majiid learned about the ToD program at a UBC-hosted career fair. Freshly relocated to British Columbia from Ontario, Sanaa eagerly sought opportunities in public health. Following a compelling discussion with ToD Director Jacquie Coulter, they scheduled a meeting the next day. This led to a seamless alignment with an ideal career opportunity.

Initially, I joined the Leadership Development team in a temporary role, transitioning swiftly into a permanent position. I expressed my aspiration to align my career with my academic background in public health and health promotion to my manager, who graciously supported this goal. My tenure in HR equipped me with invaluable transferable skills. Eventually, I transitioned into my current role—a dream position, supporting parents and caregivers across B.C.!

Innovation & advancement, opportunity to make your mark: Karthik's Story

Karthik Sathia Moorthi started his journey with PHSA as a Project Coordinator within the BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS) ToD program. Karthik advanced within the team, assuming the pivotal role of Project Manager in a ToD capacity, then succeeded in a regular full-time PM role within the same team, where he continues to thrive today.

My career path at BCMHSUS commenced through ToD in the Interprofessional Practice team. The most gratifying aspect of my role thus far has been contributing to the team that constructed BCMHSUS's Centre for Learning—an educational hub that consolidates mental health and substance use education for professionals, fostering an environment of continuous learning and growth.

Contribute to diverse projects and find your fit: Tammy's Story

Tammy Chu began her journey at PHSA initially as a temporary Project Coordinator in Information Management/Information Technology Services. She transitioned to the role of Talent Acquisition Associate, and shortly after moved into a Talent Acquisition Representative role within ToD. Motivated by glowing endorsements about PHSA's exceptional work culture from friends and peers, Tammy actively pursued a position within the organization.

I believe Talent on Demand has been an incredible avenue for me to get my foot in the door within the organization. It has provided many opportunities to collaborate with diverse teams on various projects, significantly enriching my experiences within PHSA. The most rewarding aspect of my current role, as Interim Talent Acquisition Advisor, is the privilege of collaborating with a supportive and cooperative team while delivering top-tier recruitment services to our leaders across PHSA.

Build your career within health care

We offer candidates the chance to gain valuable skills and experience in their field through temporary assignments. This unique work experience can help our employees discover what areas of the organization might be the best career path for them, while satisfying their desire to do purpose-driven work.

Heidi Ng's journey within the ToD program has been nothing short of transformative. Starting as an Executive Assistant in 2021, she swiftly navigated her path to a permanent full-time Coordinator role before excelling further as a Project Manager within Provincial Lab Medicine Services at PHSA.

“The most fulfilling part of the ToD program is knowing if you do well in your role, there will be more doors and potential that you cannot imagine. I was excited about future opportunities and my feelings have not changed since the perspective of joining PHSA. Discovering my true purpose and contributing meaningfully within this organization has been a profound experience for me.” - Heidi Ng, Project Manager, Provincial Lab Medicine Services
