The Coordinator, Protection, Design & Technology coordinates protection building design and security technology input for the Fraser Health Authority and the Provincial Health Services Authority projects. The Coordinator Projection, Design & Technology administers the platform of electronic and other related security systems and technology; provides leadership in the implementation and evaluation of new and existing security related technologies; coordinates the system linkages with other Integrated Protection Service departments such as Emergency Management/Business Continuity, Parking, Information Technology and supports the Regional Manager with the daily operations.


What you’ll do

  • Responsible for providing building design and security technology input for major construction and renovation projects across the Organizations to ensure Integrated Protection Service standards for safe design and technology applications are met.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of Integrated Protection Service standards for building design security, security sensitive areas and the application of security technology; communicates these standards to Facilities Planning, Facility Maintenance and Operations at the Organizations, project managers, contractors and others as part of an ongoing working relationship with these key groups.
  • Acts as the primary Integrated Protection Services contact across the Organizations in the implementation of electronic access control, closed circuit television, intrusion/duress, parking systems and other related technologies; participates in the management and oversight of the contracted security service provider for the Organizations; conducts physical security risk assessments and security reviews for the Organizations.
  • Programs associated protection/security equipment including operational functions such as schedules, cardholders, control graphics, users and codes; maintains the security and integrity of security systems and related administrative processes for the Organizations.
  • Makes recommendations to and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders of the Organizations such as general contractors, project managers, engineers and staff regarding the implementation of security related systems for the Organizations.
  • Provides advice to and participates with Labour Relations, Directors/Managers and other staff in the Organizations in the investigations involving staff with a particular emphasis on those involving security or information technology; plays a lead role in the application of security technology that may be required for sensitive investigations; supports the development of action plans regarding issues including the investigation and determination of appropriate actions for the Organizations.
  • Develops and administers training/education/promotion programs relating to the use of security related systems and processes for the Organizations; develops implements and administers preventive maintenance programs for applicable associated equipment.
  • Assists with the preparation of operating and capital budgets associated with the administration and operation of applicable equipment, in collaboration with the Regional Manager, Integrated Protection Services; develops and conducts audits relating to system use/potential abuse, making modifications as required; develops and implements installation and programming standards for security related equipment.
  • Ensures an appropriate and prompt response to related issues and complaints; maintains a computerized inventory of all associated equipment and supplies for the Organizations.
  • Liaises with other Integrated Protection Services staff in the capacity of protection project design and technology and other related integration requirements; coordinates the interface between security technology and system functions related to Parking, Transportation Demand Management and Emergency Management/Business Continuity; liaises with Parking Services to ensure the integrity of the access control program.
  • Liaises with external emergency services such as police and fire departments in response to incidences and issues impacting the Organizations’ staff, clients and operations.
  • Provides after hours on-call function for Integrated Protection Services for the Organizations, as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Diploma in Facilities Planning, Project Management, Criminal Justice and/or a related field, supplemented with five (5) to seven (7) years' recent related experience in administering, maintaining or installing access control/photo identification, CCTV, intrusion/duress systems and/or associated hardware and software in a large complex multi-site institutional or campus environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, manage, organize, and problem solve
  • Working knowledge of appropriate legislation and provincial/national standards on protection standards, security, surveillance and the protection of privacy
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the BC Health Care environment
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to effectively to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts and practices
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills while maintaining mutually beneficial vendor relations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to foster a respectful and motivating work environment
  • Ability to operate related equipment including related software applications
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range: $74,618 - $107,264 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
