Overview

IMITS manages over 300 applications across business, clinical and research environments, serving over 50,000 front line, administrative and research staff to enable over 4.8 million patient encounters a year. As a successful candidate, you will deliver support to enable PHSA, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and Providence Health Care (PHC) to become leaders in providing patient-centered health care. You have initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem solving abilities, as well as excellent communication skills.

Information Management/Information Technology Services (IMITS) is a service of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) which plans, manages, and evaluates specialty and province-wide health care services across BC. What you’ll do

  • Provide supervision, leadership, and guidance to members of the data and analytics team by establishing team priorities and ensuring prompt and accurate completion of operational activities. Evaluate individual and team performance against targets. Identify areas for development in team performance and implement strategies to facilitate a high-performing team.
  • Lead the analytics team to advance data analytics, reporting, business intelligence, and data management, supporting leaders and clinicians to self-serve important quality indicators. Support decision-making to be evidence informed. Ensure solutions are built to be sustainable.
  • Consult as a subject matter expert in data analytics and reporting for BCMHSUS with a variety of PHSA Programs and Services and external partner organizations such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Mental Health, other Health Authorities, and Researchers; respond to customer needs for analytic products and services from across PHSA and external partner organizations. Mobilize team members to meet customer needs and assign necessary resources as required.
  • Oversee and review methodologies, data availability and limitations, and make recommendations on initiatives around data linkages and study or project designs. Act as a methodological resource to their own, and other analytic teams, as well as the broader PHSA community.
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and availability of data and analytic products produced by the team for PHSA recommendations and decision-making. Apply expert analytic knowledge, from self or within team members, to PHSA needs to support monitoring, evaluation, quality improvement, service planning, forecasting, and research efforts.
  • Maintain department standards and procedures including policies for ensuring access to and sharing of sensitive health data. Ensure team members work according to policy and identify risks with current practices. Escalate issues to.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or similar field plus a minimum of eight (8) years recent related experience in analytics and/or the health information field in a large, complex organization including a minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory role.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills in a diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to the needs of stakeholders supported by an acute awareness of the impact of action.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve with a global perspective in order to incorporate the organization’s systems and strategies when developing viable solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish courses of action for self and others that are results-oriented. Demonstrated project management experience with multi-faceted projects and stringent timelines.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have:  Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.)
