What you’ll do

  • Coordinate, develop and implement a centralized referral registry and access utilization system for the designated Mental Health and/or Addiction Program. Develop and determine the effectiveness of the registry and Access system policies, procedures, and standards, in collaboration with members of acute psychiatric mental health care services, community Mental Health and Addiction teams, and other related programs.
  • Coordinate and maintain a bed occupancy and wait list database of referrals to the designated Mental Health and/or Addiction services program and work in close liaison with referring agencies to ensure referrals are prioritized in accordance with established policies and procedures. May be required to track Alternate Level of Care (ALC) service applicable for the designated program .
  • Receive and review referrals for access and discharge to Mental Health and/or Addiction services. Identify suitable services for referral in accordance with established protocols. Work in close collaboration with Mental Health and/or Addiction and medical services in other health authorities to ensure referral eligibility and to ensure that clients with the highest need are prioritized for placement.
  • Monitor referrals from acute mental health and medical sites and work collaboratively with various sites and/or health authorities, Mental Health and/or Addiction teams and other related programs to ensure efficient flow of referrals to promote maximum bed utilization.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to Mental Health & Addictions teams, acute sites, other referral sources, families and service users on the interpretation and application of policies relevant to eligibility and access to bed resources.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two years' recent, related nursing experience relevant with the designated client population or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Nursing science theory, and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards for Nursing Practice.
  • Adult and older adult residential care, tertiary, acute and community Mental Health and/or Addiction services and related issues.
  • Relevant policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have:  Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc).

Job Type: Regular Full-Time (1.00 FTE)
Wage: $49.20 - $67.08 per hour
