Job Summary:

As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Pharmacy Education Coordinator coordinates and delivers education for Pharmacy staff, undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students, pharmacy residents and other health care providers and functions as an expert practitioner in oncology pharmacy practice.

Duties/Accountabilities:

1. Coordinates and delivers instruction for Pharmacy staff education programs including in-service programs and clinical training programs.

2. Coordinates practicums for Pharmacy undergraduate, graduate, including PhD, Pharm.D or Master’s students, on practicum at VCC, including general hospital rotations and specialty rotations in oncology through planning the curriculum and providing instruction.

3. Provides didactic instruction for Pharmacy undergraduate and graduate students, Pharmacy residents and other health care professionals in oncology/hematology and supportive care both at VCC and in conjunction with the University of British Columbia.

4. Provides pharmaceutical care to patients on service and individualizes drug therapy through methods such as chart review and patient assessment, creation of individualized therapeutic plan, monitoring patient for desired therapeutic outcomes and collaboration with other health care providers.

5. Provides expert advice and guidance as a Pharmacy Education Coordinator in the area of oncology/hematology and supportive care at the regional level including clinical teaching, peer consultation, answering drug information consults and publications.

6. Maintains and updates knowledge in Pharmacy by methods such as reviewing literature, consultation with other health care professionals, contributing to pharmacy publications such as the Systemic Therapy Update and the Cancer Drug Manual, and attending and presenting at relevant education programs in order to contribute to the continuing improvement of care in Oncology Pharmacy Services.

7. Develops research proposals and conducts approved research projects in oncology pharmacy practice in collaboration with other health care professionals through methods such as initiating and writing research proposals, acting as a Principal Investigator, developing and monitoring budgets, collecting, integrating and analyzing data, and presenting research finding within the BCCA and at conferences.

8. Publishes articles in professional journals relating to oncology pharmacy practice.

9.   Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience

• Post Graduate Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited university.
• Completion of a Hospital Pharmacy Residency.
• Licensed with College of Pharmacists of BC.
• Minimum three (3) years of recent related experience including experience in oncology and/or hematology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to organize work, establish priorities and be self-directed.
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with all members and levels of the Agency’s health care team, patients, family members and external health professionals.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with others.
• Demonstrated ability to use computerized pharmacy systems and other software applications such as WORD and Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to teach staff and students, including clinical training and didactic teaching.
• Demonstrated ability to provide pharmaceutical care to patients.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research.
• Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
•       Demonstrated skills in CPR techniques.
