In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. The Clerk Receptionist performs clerical duties such as patient reception and registration, processing of referrals, and the scheduling of patient appointments. The Clerk Receptionist also inputs and retrieves data from databases, utilizing computerized software in accordance with established policies, standards and procedures.


What you’ll do

  • Performs reception activities such as receiving patients, parents and/or visitors, answering and redirecting telephone enquiries, taking telephone messages when necessary, and handling routine enquiries regarding the clinic. Handles inquiries regarding the clinic, redirects inquiries when necessary and takes messages as required.
  • Receives and processes request for referrals and appointments, using information from patient charts and/or information provided by referring medical/dental offices. Books and confirms patient appointments with dental staff and/or professionals.
  • Admits patients for clinic appointments using the Hospital registration system by obtaining patient information and completing admission documentation. Schedules bookings for the Operating Room (OR).
  • Performs clerical duties such as maintaining payment records, filing, record-keeping, typing and photocopying materials.
  • Receives, sorts and distributes incoming mail; processes outgoing mail. Distributes reports and correspondence.
  • Inputs and extracts data to establish, maintain and store statistical, medical and patient demographic information utilizing a computer database system.
  • Collects, collates and files all patient information such as laboratory reports and correspondence and updates patient demographic information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and two year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
  • Ability to keyboard 45 wpm.
  • Knowledge of medical/dental terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
