Entry to this advanced working level is restricted to those who are thoroughly conversant with all of the complexities of the specific research programs and methodologies of the hiring laboratory.  They are expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the performance of duties such as staff supervision and scheduling of work, administrative support, and collaboration on research papers.  They are designated the responsibility of ensuring that the day to day work meets the research objectives. 

What you’ll do

  • Under limited supervision, performs complex technical procedures and experiments by following established laboratory procedures according to written protocols.
  • Provide input regarding modification of procedures as requested by Department Head, Principal Investigator, or designate.
  • Performs experiments by following established laboratory procedures according to written protocols.
  • Maintain and store cell lines and primary cultures.
  • Maintain and store test materials and products.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Demonstrate work methods or procedures to less experienced assistants as designated; orients new staff to department.
  • Day to day scheduling and supervision of assigned work.
  • Provide significant contributions to the preparation and/or presentation of research papers.
  • Assist the Department Head or Principal Investigator in preparing grant applications and budgets.

What you bring

Qualifications:

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from a recognized Bachelor’s program in an appropriate discipline (e.g. Bachelor of Science); plus five (5) years of recent related experience in a research laboratory. 

You have:

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time (Until April 30, 2025)

Salary Range: $62,239- $89,469 per year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

Location: 675 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver BC V5Z 1G1
