This position is a part of Provincial Programs and involves remote work, however the Manager must be within the vicinity of a regional BC Cancer Centre to work on site as required.
Reporting to the BC Cancer Director of Provincial Programs and the Provincial Digital Health Information Services (PDHIS) Director of Ancillary Information Solutions, the Manager, Oncology Solutions is responsible for providing the strategic direction, planning, execution and sustainment of BC Cancer’s Oncology Solutions’ systems and projects. The Manager leads a highly specialized technical team that is responsible for providing 24/7 support for primarily oncology treatment and other clinical systems. This includes vendor contract and relationship management; product lifecycle management; capital planning and cyber security modernization. The role provides leadership, guidance, and consultation to the Provincial Health Services Clinical Informatics team, the Radiation Oncology Systems Management Group, and the Provincial Digital Health Information Services (PDHIS) Teams in order to align clinical systems to business and clinical strategies.
What you’ll do
- Lead a team responsible for the 24/7 sustainment of Oncology and other clinical systems, including project management, capital planning, lifecycle management, and cyber security modernization.
- Supervise, lead and performance manage designated staff using effective management techniques such as coaching, mentoring, and skill development. Inspires team towards the achievement of project goals through ensuring the culture is one in which individual competencies can thrive.
- Perform key vendor contract and relationship management on behalf of clinical and business areas.
- Lead technical input and review of Oncology related procurements.
- Provide, leadership and strategic consultation to BC Cancer Provincial Programs and Provincial Digital Health Information Solutions partners on the operations of Oncology, other clinical solutions, and major strategic initiatives.
- Ensure alignment with BC Cancer’s strategic priorities by liaising between the program’s clinical and business groups, PDHIS and clinical application vendors.
- Lead project management and support for program initiatives such as hardware and software upgrades., cybersecurity modernization and disaster recovery improvements.
- Chair various meetings such as the Radiation Oncology Information Technology group meeting, as required.
What you bring
Qualifications:
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a degree in Computer Science or related discipline and seven (7) years recent related experience in a large, complex information systems application environment, including a minimum of five (5) years in a progressively responsible management role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples in social and health contexts, including supported by significant knowledge of Indigenous-specific mandates, including clear understanding of and commitment to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination and embed Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within health care settings. This involves familiarity and understanding Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Cancer contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - BC Human Rights Code, BC Anti-racism Act and how they intersect across the health care system.
Core Competencies
- Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure, and has demonstrated initiatives in breaking down barriers and ensuring a safe environment ensuring a sense of belonging to all and informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Awareness of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (the Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

- Knowledge of main-stream clinical & business systems, and current techniques and application capabilities of a large-scale multi-site distributed computing environment.

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time
Salary Range: $106,026 - $152,413. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
