What is Forensics?
Forensic Psychiatric Regional Clinics and Programs are for people with a mental health and/or substance use disorder who have come into contact with the law. The courts may refer them to one of our regional clinics for assessment and treatment. We believe that people, when properly supported, have the ability to manage most aspects of their lives. We focus on people's strengths and resources instead of on symptoms and problems. They are a key member of their treatment team and an active participant in their own care. We help them get the care, support, and treatment they need.

What you’ll do
- Provide, clinical and professional practice leadership to the department of forensic psychology and participates in the planning and coordination of psychology services across the FPS Regional Clinics in the Province. Lead, direct, and ensure standardization of evidence-based practice in forensic psychology services through collaboration and coordination with psychologists; department, program, and professional practice leads; multi-disciplinary teams and clinical unit staff, medical staff, Learning & Development personnel, and others as appropriate.
- Provide professional practice supervision to staff members, facilitate workplace solutions, and develop processes for quality assurance and adherence to professional and organizational standards. Identify departmental needs and contributes to the development of operating and capital proposals including making recommendations to the Director regarding a variety of issues such as workload, staff resources, minor and capital equipment purchases, and workspace allocations.
- Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of job descriptions for the Psychology service. Participate in staff selection, orientation, and on-boarding and collaborate with the Director on initiatives related to engagement, practice enhancement and performance appraisal. Clarify and support performance expectations with staff members while referring actions and documentation that may require formal disciplinary action to the Director.
- Ensure registration, professional standards, practice guidelines, and code of ethics requirements are understood, monitored, and maintained by methods such as collaborating with others and developing policies and procedures. Develop, implement, and monitor quality improvement initiatives to ensure professional standards and performance are maintained and advanced for the discipline of psychology. Maintain a system of policy development to ensure policies are consistent with the professional practice guidelines and corporate policy. Maintain an awareness of legislation governing clinical practice and support the department in meeting the associated requirements.
- Provide leadership, direction, and guidance in the development of education, research, and special projects aimed toward the advancement of expertise in forensic psychological practice and support of the overall delivery of evidence based and trauma informed care across CMHSU programs. Work in collaboration with the Director, FPS Regional Clinics; Learning & Development, program and professional practice leadership, clinical service area staff, community partners, and others in the development of educational strategies based on organizational priorities.
- Work in collaboration with the Director to plan and coordinate psychological service delivery; develops practice guidelines, goals and objectives using evidence-based practice; and ensures the professional practice framework is in place to meet related accreditation standards and standards of care and the Health Professions Act. Oversee the development and implementation of method for clinical guidance. Contribute to the development of interdisciplinary clinical pathways and service delivery protocols by facilitating staff input and identifying evidence-based practice.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Doctoral level program in Clinical or Forensic Psychology.
- Six (6) years recent related clinical experience including two (2) years’ experience in a leadership capacity in clinical psychology or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current full registration as a Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia.

- Comprehensive knowledge of the standards of practice and regulations for Psychology as established by the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia.
- Thorough understanding of professional practice issues and legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to advance strategic initiatives and manage people and budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, supervision, work direction and training.
- Superior interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to set and accomplish objectives and manage expectations.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time
Wage: $61.52 – $76.84 per hour
2% of the straight-time hourly rate of pay for employees working in Minimum and Medium security units and community settings; 4% of the straight-time hourly rate of pay for employees working in Maximum and Multi-level security units.
