Laboratory Clerk
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Section Supervisor/Lead, the Laboratory Administrative Clerk performs data entry functions against requisitions; provides clerical duties such as answering telephone calls and filing for the department. Receives and processes test requisitions, matching them with patient samples when required. Enters, searches and retrieves information from computerized information systems as required
Duties/Accountabilities:
1. Performs data entry functions and general word processing such as inputting client information into relevant computerized systems, maintaining relevant registers, and typing from rough draft or general instruction, including correspondence, reports, and documents.
2. Receives and processes test requisitions, matching them with patient samples when required. Enters, searches and retrieves information from computerized information systems as required. Enters test orders into computerized information systems in accordance with established procedures
3. Performs clerical duties such as answering telephone calls and filing.
4. Performs general record management duties such as assembling files, assigning file numbers, preparing file folders, and filing and distributing documents and files.
5. Receives, records, sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, internal correspondence, and courier documents.
6. Maintains inventory of department supplies as needed.
7. Prioritizes and organizes work. Maintains a clean and tidy work area.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
• Grade 12, medical terminology and two years recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to keyboard at 45 wpm.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to work deal with others effectively.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to organize work.
