Medical Transcriptionist
Job Summary:
Transcribes medical dictation and performs related clerical duties for Anatomic Pathology. Performs a variety of clerical duties for the Laboratory as required such as assisting with the admitting and discharging of
outpatients, typing documents, and performing reception duties.
Duties/Accountabilities:
1. Transcribes medical dictation such as autopsy, surgical and bone marrow reports, medicolegal consultation reports from dictation equipment and/or written draft.
2. Prints, copies and distributes reports and other documents as required.
3. Enters patient demographics, specimen description and results in computer systems.
4. Sets up and maintains filing systems of various files, records, slides, etc.
5. Books and schedules admission and discharge of outpatients as required.
6. Types material such as correspondence, papers, lectures, procedure manuals, memoranda, letters, reports from dictation and/or hand written draft.
7. Performs reception related duties such as answering incoming calls, taking messages, answering inquiries or referring as appropriate, and opening and distributing mail.
8. Performs related clerical duties such as photocopying, forwarding slides as requested and filing.
9. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education, Training & Experience
Grade 12, graduation from an approved program in medical transcription and one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills & Abilities
Ability to keyboard at 60 w.p.m.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with other effectively.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to organize work.
Ability to operate related equipment.
