Job Summary:

The Clinical Coordinator of Implant Services, provides supervision and mentoring of assigned clinical staff and provides leadership in clinical, education and research in the area of Cochlear and Bone Conduction Implants. Working within an inter-professional environment the Coordinator assists in the planning of the Implant programs and coordinates the implementation and evaluation of Implant services at BCCH as per established standards, policies and procedures.
Duties/Accountabilities:
1. Supervises and supports staff through methods such as reviewing workload assignments, determines related training and orientation requirements and evaluates staff performance. Facilitates resolutions to work issues and monitors operations/clinical activities to ensure department standards are met and safety procedures are followed. Forwards information on unresolved work issues to Professional Practice Leader for response.
2. Leads staff through methods such as establishing priorities and providing guidance and advice on professional development/skills through methods such as mentoring and coaching staff, joint goal setting and identifying professional practice priorities for continuing education and professional development.
3. Participates in the recruitment of staff through methods such as identifying vacancies, interviewing applicants and making recommendations to the Professional Practice Leader for selection to maintain approved staff complement.
4. Acts as the Cochlear and Bone Conduction Implant Team Leader, in consultation with the Implant Team, and in collaboration with Professional Practice Leader and related Program leaders, as well as the Surgical Medical Director supports the planning and coordination of service delivery, including the development of practice guidelines, goals, objectives and inter-professional clinical pathways using evidence based practice or best practice information.
5. Ensures that the Implant services day-to-day operations are carried out including clinical assignments of staff and intake/screening for appropriate referrals.
6. Participates in the overall planning of Audiology services through methods such as meeting with others such as the community habilitationists, teachers, and others involved in Cochlear and Bone Conduction Implant service delivery. Participates in establishing goals and objectives for the Implant services at BCCH in conjunction with the Professional Practice Leader to ensure that care is performed in an effective and cost effective manner and meeting the needs of the population.
7. Assists in developing clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures for Implant services at BCCH by performing duties such as reviewing literature and following developments in the field of Cochlear and Bone Conduction Implants, soliciting input from other professionals and patients and their families and recommending updates to programs and protocols to the Professional Practice Leader. Drafts/revises clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures for authorization by the Professional Practice Leader and/or program leaders, implementing approved changes and updating documentation to ensure staff are kept up-to-date on changing practices.
8. Assists in the development and implementation of quality improvement program(s) for Implant services at BCCH to ensure services are provided in the most efficient and effective way by performing duties such as monitoring quantity and quality of patient care, directing chart audits, initiating and contributing to clinical studies and identifying discrepancies and following-up as directed.
9. Assists the Professional Practice Leader with practice issues such as staffing matters as needed for the Audiology Discipline.
10. Initiates and/or collaborates with colleagues to develop research proposals and participates in conducting approved research projects in collaboration with relevant personnel through methods such as drafting research proposals, providing information on proposed budgets, collecting data, analyzing data, summarizing information and participating in disseminating research findings.
11. Coordinates clinical teaching and fieldwork experience for Audiology students interested in Implants in conjunction with the Professional Practice Leader through methods such as developing student schedules, ensuring and/or providing student orientation and evaluating student program(s).
12. Maintains a variety of records such as workload statistics through methods such as gathering information, completing analysis and recording information. Prepares a variety of reports such as discipline reports for the Professional Practice Leader or program leader highlighting anomalies.
13. Contributes to operating and capital budget processes, including responding to variances, monitoring cochlear implant expenditures and variances and planning for future needs for the cochlear implant patient population. Participates in negotiations regarding cochlear implant equipment.
14. Provides consultative Implant services to a variety of internal and external individuals and/or groups performing duties such as consulting as a resource in area of expertise to other facilities. Provides clinical direction on complex cases.
15. Provides Implant assessments, mapping, counseling, habilitation consultations, and mentoring using advanced skill, knowledge and clinical reasoning.
16. Applies advanced clinical knowledge and reasoning to the development and implementation of Implant treatment programs for clients/patients including developing innovative solutions to assessment and treatment issues.
17. Attends a variety of meetings as a discipline and service representative to provide input and/or receive information and participate in decision making.
18. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
• Masters Degree in Audiology from a recognized program.
• Four (4) years of recent related pediatric experience, including one (1) year of administrative and leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Full license, including Cochlear Implant Special Certificate as an Audiologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
Skills and Abilities
• Comprehensive knowledge of the standards of practice and competencies of Audiology as established by College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
• Comprehensive knowledge of implant theory, practice and standards of care.
• Broad knowledge of research process and methodology and ability to critically appraise research evidence.
