Communications Lead, BC Health Workday

Role Summary

In accordance with the Purpose, Vision, Values and Coast Salish Teachings, and strategic directions of PHSA, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. 

The BC Health Workday Program is a provincial initiative with seven participating BC health organizations (FHA, IHA, ISLH, NHA, PHC, PHSA and VCHA). The program began in 2023 to implement a Human Capital Management System (HCMS) software solution as part of the BC Health Human Resources Strategy to transform HR services. Designed by Workday Canada, the new provincial platform will replace existing HR and payroll systems in the health organizations with a single, unified technical system that will standardize and modernize HR and payroll services. It is a significant transformation in BC and is vital to the sustainability of BC’s health system.

The Communications Lead is responsible for providing advice and communications services in the provincial BC Health Workday program (software implementation), to all the Health Authorities, and to other regional partners, and (internal and external) interested parties. Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Training, the Communications Lead develops and supports implementation of a comprehensive communication strategy, establishes evaluation benchmarks, leads implementation of communication and engagement strategies, including brand and related tactics, creates and/or contributes content, and provides expert guidance to colleagues in producing effective communications materials for and related to the BC Health Workdayprogram. The Communications Lead develops strategy and plans, and delivers a coordinated action plan to ensure regional communications are high-quality, accurate, consistent, targeted to various audiences and/or impacted or interested groups, and facilitate change while maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external partners and interested parties.

Key Accountabilities

  • Liaises with representatives from PHSA and other BC Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health, affiliated professional organizations and advisory groups and networks to respond to requests for information, and collaborate on joint initiatives, communications efforts, and engagement events.
  • Produces diverse communications such as website, Intranet, internal briefings, newsletters, brochures, reports, displays, speeches, educational materials, and presentations. Ensures quality, consistency, and effectiveness of complex communication messaging and materials for various regional audiences. Contributes to and aligns with BC Health Workday program Communications Strategy and guidelines. 
  • Responsible for ensuring a consistent visual identity on all relevant HCMS communications materials.
  • Leads implementation of communication plans to raise internal and external awareness and understanding of BC Health Workdayinitiatives and priorities and promotes a positive reputation for the software implementation.
  • Provides insights to regional and/or provincial BC Health Workday leaders, program team members, project managers, and interested parties in all aspects of written work to ensure accurate, consistent, quality messages, and materials. Prepares diverse communications materials and works with others such as photographers and printers as needed.
  • Leads communication and engagement activities in conjunction with BC Health Workday program Change, Communications, Training & Transformation team, governance committees, project leaders, and Health Authority and other interested parties, including end users of the Workday software. Maintains awareness of new developments and trends in communications through literature review, contact with peers at other organizations, advisory groups and professional associations, and if authorized, through education programs.

Qualifications

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Communications, Journalism or Public Relations and at least five (5) years of experience in a communications role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written); solid business writing and the ability to create compelling publications; skill and proficiency in organizational electronic communication technology, desktop publishing and web-based technology practices.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, creative programs such as Canva or Mural, database and web-based programs.
  • The ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive issues with skill, tact and diplomacy is important, as are excellent decision making skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to build trustful relationships in a multi-health authority, provincial context; flexibility to reprioritize quickly to meet changing priorities.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.

Wage:  
$88,990 to $127,923.
The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
