BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre (BCWH) is seeking a site based Department Head for the Department of Medical Genetics in Vancouver, British Columbia.  

We are seeking a candidate with exceptional clinical skills and demonstrated administrative experience within medical genetics. As the successful applicant for this position, you will have certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and be eligible for licensure to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. The successful applicant will be an active member of the medical staff and participate in clinical service delivery within the department of medical genetics.

The successful applicant will show evidence of building, managing and maintaining high-quality and productive relationships, demonstrate cultural humility and have the ability to communicate and interact with empathy, understanding and respect for diverse perspectives and behaviours in keeping with the Coast Salish Teachings gifted to the PHSA.

Reporting to the chief medical officer for BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, the department head will oversee physician human resource planning and managment, facilitate academic and research endevours within the department and together with the Program Director of the Provincial Medical Genetics Program (PMGP) oversee financial and program planning, directional planning and implementation, clinical care delivery and quality of care within the PMGP.

BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, birthers, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women’s health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. BC Women’s is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with over 7,000 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system. As an academic health centre BCW’s mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.
