Expression of Interest: RT/MRI Technology Professional Development Opportunity

Overview

BC Cancer is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for professional development and advanced training in preparation for the introduction of dual-modality Radiation Therapy/Magnetic Resonance Imaging (RT/MRI) technology at our Vancouver and Abbotsford Centers in 2028, with further expansion at future Redevelopment sites. This opportunity is available to current Radiation Therapists at BC Cancer in both the Vancouver and Abbotsford centres.

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation, excellence in patient care, and workforce development. Selected Radiation Therapists will receive employer-sponsored education to enhance their skills and ensure the safe, effective use of this emerging technology, which will shape the future of cancer treatment in British Columbia at BC Cancer.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a current Radiation Therapist at BC Cancer in good standing.
  • Hold an active membership with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development and advancing clinical practice.
  • Ability to fully commit to the education and training program.

Program Highlights

Successful candidates will:

  • Gain advanced knowledge of RT/MRI technology.
  • Enhance skills in patient safety, quality assurance, and evidence-based practice.
  • Be equipped to support the implementation of RT/MRI technology at the Vancouver and Abbotsford Centers.

Training Details

  • Training at BCIT will consist of 3 semesters of didactic instruction, followed by 1 semester practicum (4-month).
  • Candidates must commit to attending and completing the program in its entirety.

Funding & Support

  • BC Cancer will provide comprehensive support to ensure successful participation:
  • Full funding for tuition and program fees (including learning materials and textbooks).
  • Wages will be covered for the duration of the training program.
  • Reimbursement for all related expenses as per the Collective Agreement (CA) and PHSA business and expense policy.
  • Upon successful completion of the program, BC Cancer will cover the cost of the CAMRT exam.
  • Dedicated paid study time will be provided.

Responsibilities & Commitments

Participants will be expected to:

  • Successfully complete the full education and training program within the defined timelines.
  • Pass the CAMRT examination.
  • Share knowledge gained and contribute to the knowledge transfer within their clinical team.
  • Sign an 18-month Return of Service (ROS) agreement.

  • Interested candidates should submit an Expression of Interest that includes:
  • A current resume, including years of experience as a Radiation Therapist.
  • A copy of your active CAMRT membership.
  • A 200–300-word statement outlining:

              o   Your interest in this learning opportunity.

              o   How this opportunity aligns with your professional goals.

  • Confirmation of support from your RT Lead or Manager.
