What you’ll do

  • Exemplify and promote excellence in nursing by providing trauma-informed, anti-racist, psychologically safe, family-centered, advanced-practice nursing expertise, and clinical support to the interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Maintaining practice excellence through involvement with selected patient groups.
  • Utilizing practice opportunities to provide cultural safety expertise in nursing care to patients/residents or groups of patients, to evaluate nursing practice, and to provide clinical learning activities for nurses.
  • Influencing cultural safety in nursing practice by participating in patient/resident care advocacy issues directed toward improving practice and the cultural safety of patient/resident care.
  • Acting as a role model for professional practice by integrating all components of the professional role: clinical practice, consultation, collaboration, leadership, education, research/evaluation – with a particular focus in Indigenous cultural safety.
  • Collaborating with other health care disciplines within the hospital and community to develop effective patient/resident care programs.
  • Participating in provincial/national groups related to Indigenous pediatric specialty.
  • Coordinating care for select patients/residents i.e., as “case manager” as needed.
  • Develop and implement standards, clinical practice guidelines and other processes that support excellence in service delivery and are consistent with provincial and national guidelines and accreditation requirements.
  • Lead the design and implementation of integrated systems and processes to promote the development of competent staff, support professional and clinical practice and enhance collaborative working relationships across the continuum of care.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Pursuant to Section 42 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry.
  • Registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Master’s degree in Nursing, Leadership or equivalent. A minimum of five (5) year’s recent related experience working in a designated clinical specialty and/or health care setting in a progressive leadership role.
  • Canadian Nurses Association certification in designated clinical specialty or membership in related provincial, national and/or international professional association(s) designated clinical specialty is preferred.
  • Current CPR certification including Pediatric Advanced Life Support and ACLS, lived experience, or equivalent. 

You will also have

  • Understanding of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), the First Nations principles of OCAP®, and other related reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Indigenous (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) communities and organizations.
  • Lived experiences that drive their work and vision for the future.
  • Demonstrated ability to both practice and lead in a trauma-informed, psychologically safe, anti-racist, patient and family centered manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate to build relationships that promote the achievement of cooperative goals and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally consult to enable the successful sharing of expertise with caregivers, patients/clients, families/significant others, other members of the public, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to proficiently provide and vigilantly evaluate education/orientation on complex advanced practices and abilities to ensure skills levels are acquired or maintained by team members to meet overall practice and care standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize expert acute clinical evaluation skills to assess needs of the patient/client and their families/significant others.
  • Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range: $106,026 - $152,413/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
