BC Cancer is committed to reducing the incidence of cancer, reducing the mortality from cancer, and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer. BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia in partnership with regional health authorities to deliver a range of cancer services, which include prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation, survivorship and palliative care. It operates six regional cancer centres in Surrey, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford, and Prince George.

BC Cancer – Vancouver Cancer Centre is the largest treatment facility within BC Cancer and works in close collaboration with the BC Cancer Research Centre (BCCRC) and Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), both of which are in close proximity. Our department has a current staff of 34 radiation oncologists, and 10 Clinical Associates. The department has a longstanding reputation for clinical excellence and academia. The facility has 10 linear accelerators (including a VERO machine with tumour tracking capability), a Cobalt machine, 2 CT simulators, an operating theater, and a brachytherapy suite. BC Cancer – Vancouver is a full service cancer centre with strong medical oncology, surgical oncology, diagnostic imaging, pathology, oral oncology, supportive care and functional imaging services and an inpatient unit.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work within a provincial Radiation Therapy program, committed to clinical excellence through evidence based standardized care and knowledge generation.

Clinical duties are likely to include 2 sites depending on departmental needs and skills of applicants. Current clinical needs may include breast, lung, lymphoma, skin, GU and CNS malignancies. In addition to their clinical duties, the candidate will participate in research, administrative, and educational activities. We have a complement of 11 radiation oncology residents and 1-2 clinical fellows. Faculty appointment and academic rank with UBC Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Radiation Oncology will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. An appointment with the Provincial Health Service Authority (PHSA) is mandatory and consulting privileges at VGH are expected.

The successful applicant must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia and must have obtained a Fellowship in Radiation Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or hold an equivalent qualification, by the time of appointment.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
