BC Cancer is one of the world's renowned cancer organizations. This site offers a full range of services in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, and support services such as Nutrition, Clinical Trials and Patient and Family Counseling. BC Cancer – Victoria also partners with a network of community centres such as Nanaimo, BC, so that patients can continue to receive systemic therapy in their local communities.

The Department Head, Medical Oncology - Victoria, working in partnership with key operational leaders and in alignment with the PHSA mission, vision, and values, is responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning, and oversight for the Medical Oncology Department with respect to the clinical care provided by the department, and the professional practice and conduct among members of the department. The Department Head will also work with the leadership team to implement programs and processes to meet the needs of cancer patients on Vancouver Island.

Working towards a world free from cancer, BC Cancer has a mandate that covers the entire spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia in partnership with regional health authorities to deliver a range of cancer services, which include prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It operates six regional cancer centres in Surrey, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Prince George, along with two research centres that conduct research into the causes and cures for cancer.

The successful candidate will lead the operation of the Medical Oncology Department BC Cancer – Victoria, in consultation with the Department’s members and Executive Medical Director, in alignment with relevant PHSA/BC Cancer policies, rules, and bylaws. You will also be responsible for monitoring the quality of medical care provided to patients by members of the Department through processes defined in the Medical Staff Rules, e.g. regular performance reviews.

Applications are invited from those who have graduated from an approved medical school with a specialist fellowship in Medical Oncology and at least 5 years of clinical experience practicing as a Medical Oncologist. You must be eligible for licensing by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and for appointment to the staff of BC Cancer.
