Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner

PHSA is seeking an Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) to join our multidisciplinary team, as we strive to continue leading British Columbia into a healthy future. Reporting to the Infection Control Coordinator, the ICP works in close collaboration with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Medical Leads for clinical programs across multiple sites PHSA-wide. Together with your colleagues, you will facilitate implementation, operations and maintenance of PHSA’s infection prevention and control program – including our COVID-19 response.

What you’ll do:

  • Play an active role in the prevention, surveillance, and control of infections.
  • Provide support and education on IPC policies, standards, best practices and guidelines.
  • Act as a resource and review opportunities for IPC improvement, and follow up on occurrences of infection transmission across PHSA.
  • Assess site educational needs and develop, implement and evaluate effectiveness of educational programs.
  • Collaborate with clinical program infection control committees, clinical operational teams and the organization-wide IPAC team.
  • Liaise with leaders across PHSA and within our clinical programs on operational and professional matters.

What you bring:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
  • Minimum of three (3) years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Recognized post graduate Infection Control education and/or certification (Certification Board for Infection Control).
    • Note: For certain facilities, you may require continually updated knowledge of changes and developments in the practice of psychiatric nursing and of applicable Federal and Provincial legislation (the Criminal Code of Canada, Forensic Psychiatry Act, the Mental Health Act, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Young Offenders Act, Public Trustee Act, etc.
  • Confident negotiator and effective communicator combined with strong interpersonal skills; can handle unexpected situations calmly and in a professional manner.
  • Ability to access and critically review literature.
  • Ability to travel to designated facilities and work sites combined with valid BC Driver’s License and vehicle access for business related purposes, as required (travel outside of existing geographic area and/or overnight travel will be compensated in accordance with applicable collective agreement language).
