General Information
The Clinical Scientist, Innovation & Outcomes, partners with medical staff and operational leaders across the Children’s & Women’s Health Centre of BC (C&W) on relevant high-impact innovation initiatives to advance children’s and women’s health outcomes as well as the quality and value of clinical services delivered at BC Children’s Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre, and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Scientist will focus on establishing an operationally-oriented applied research and innovation program within the C&W Strategic Operations and Medical Administration portfolio. The incumbent will jointly serve as the Executive (Scientific) Director for applicable applied research and innovation projects/programs. This position will play an integral role in systems transformation through value-based health innovation and evidence-informed decision-making, contributing to the vision toward a high-functioning learning health system, as outlined by the strategic plans of the BC Ministry of Health, Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), and UBC. As a senior scientist, the incumbent will be expected to work under broad direction, leading and collaborating on initiatives at a provincial, national, and international level, as applicable.
As a faculty member within an affiliated academic department, the Clinical Scientist will have protected time to engage in professional development, teaching, and scholarly activities within their respective community.
Specific Accountabilities
Technical
- Lead and collaborate on local, regional, and international innovation efforts pertinent to children’s and women’s health and participate in relevant projects, programs, or committees, as appropriate.
- Provide senior consultative services in health innovation, evaluation, and outcomes research.
Academic
- With a recommendation for appointment as Clinical or Academic Faculty at UBC, SFU, or other affiliated institution, will be expected to actively engage in scholarly activities, as applicable.
Research
- Advise and lead high-impact applied research, development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Develop an applied innovation team that is actively leading health innovation and transformation.
Qualifications
This position requires a PhD or professional doctorate in a relevant field, as well as certification or registration with a professional association or college (e.g., RCPSC, BCNU, CCHL, etc.). The incumbent is not required to be a practicing clinician; however, preference will be given to those with experience in direct clinical care, such as a physician, surgeon, nurse, or allied health professional. Candidates must have at least 4-6 years of relevant experience in clinical innovation, applied research, program evaluation, outcomes research, or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
