Clinical Simulation Specialist
Job Summary:
In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Simulation/AV Specialist supports learning at BC Children’s & BC Women’s by providing technical and operational support of the computers, AV technologies, simulation mannequins and surrounding equipment in the Simulation Centre. This position maintains proficiency in existing and emergent simulation and AV technologies.
Duties/Accountabilities:
1. Provides technical support for simulation mannequins, AV recording and debriefing systems, and ancillary equipment by trouble shooting and escalating issues to the Media Coordinator vendor or IMITS as appropriate.
2. Under direction of the Simulation Centre staff and users, operates simulation equipment to follow medical aspects of scenario and make the requested adjustments based on participant actions.
3. Contributes to the development of effective use of AV and simulation equipment by identifying need and creating user instructions
4. Provides full support webcasting services including live streaming content, creating and maintaining a database of on-demand media.
5. Supports users in a classroom environment by ensuring A/V equipment is operational through, support and trouble-shooting such as changing batteries and bulbs, providing appropriate connectors, extension cords, , ensuring sound system operable,
6. Performs routine preventative maintenance, support and trouble-shooting on all AV systems, media production and classroom equipment.
7. Provides input to the Coordinator by recommending equipment and supply purchases to support the Simulation Centre and to meet classroom needs.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience
• Diploma in electronics or media plus one year recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to deal with others effectively
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
• Ability to organize work and prioritize according to operational demands
• Ability to operate related equipment
