Overview
We enable health services providers to become leaders in providing patient-centered health care, using enterprise standards and frameworks to deliver useful information and clinical tools reliably and consistently, anytime, anywhere. IMITS manages over 300 applications across business, clinical and research environments, serving over 50,000 front line, administrative and research staff to enable over 4.8 million patient encounters a year. As a successful candidate, you will deliver support to enable PHSA, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and Providence Health Care (PHC) to become leaders in providing patient-centered health care. What you’ll do
- Participate in the design, development, and implementation of all cycles of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence model development to support data driven decision-making and improve delivery of care.
- Participate in the process of implementation of machine learning models into a useful product by collaborating with developers, departments, service lines, and other partners, in order to identify opportunities for automation to enable the efficient reallocation of resources.
- Prepare confidential reports regarding opportunities and recommendations for resource allocation and/or distribution.
- Perform inferential or forecasting analyses. Perform diagnostic analysis on model fits and identify potential issues and model improvements. Use cross-validation and other approaches to assess model accuracy and predictive performance. Create reports of resulting forecast diagnostics, performance, and predictions. Assist with writing of results for briefing notes and scientific publications.
- Utilize advanced statistical techniques for analyzing complex datasets, including longitudinal data analysis. Design simulation modelling in the context of evaluating public health measures. Employ data preprocessing techniques, feature engineering, and data imputation methods to ensure data quality and model accuracy.
- Identify, clean, and integrate large sets of structured and unstructured datasets from disparate sources for use in advanced analytical models and products. Troubleshoot coding problems quickly and efficiently to ensure a productive workplace.
- Use advanced machine-learning processes to convert data from non-functional forms, such as unstructured text or scanned image text, to functional forms ready for use in further machine learning models.
- Use advanced machine-learning models to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities that can make predictions or reduce workload to make a significant impact across various domains within BCCDC.
- Communicate analytic solutions to leadership and apprise leadership of AI product status throughout the various stages of the product lifecycle.
- Implement improvements as needed to current AI products.
What you bring
Qualifications
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field, and five (5) years of experience working with large datasets and machine learning models.
Skills & Knowledge
- Demonstrated skills in AI product development and the analysis of quantitative data for the purpose of creating actionable insights and measurable impact.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, processes, procedures, and methods involved in data analysis, statistical methods, and machine learning.
- Demonstrated expertise in planning, organizing, and coordinating AI product activities.
- Demonstrated proficiency with using advanced machine learning methods, machine learning software packages, and manipulation of large datasets.
- Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques including but not limited to: GLM and other regression, Bootstrapping, Random Forests, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, simulation, scenario analysis, clustering analysis, decision trees, neural networks, and other methodology.
- Experience writing computer code, querying databases, and using statistical computer languages: Python, SQL, R, SAS, and others.
- Experience with distributed data/computing tools, including Hadoop, AWS, Hive, Spark, Gurobi, MySQL, or similar.
- Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using: R/RStudio Shiny, Tableau, PowerBI, D3, Periscope/Sisense or other.
- Demonstrated expertise in knowledge synthesis and translation activities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time
Salary Range: $88,990 - $127,923/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
